Why Registration is now Required for Professionals?
Stuart Wills started the Kiwi First Home Buyers Group in July 2012, and with the team of mortgage advisers at Mortgage Managers still manage the group today.
Unlike how most mortgage advisers established their Facebook presence, when Stuart Wills decided to create this group, he wanted to ensure it was a place that people could ask their real questions and get real feedback. Because of this, some rules were established. The rules have remained pretty similar throughout the years, but the time has come where we needed to implement a little more stringent rules given how the group has grown and how many people have decided it is a good place to try to source business.
Advertising and self-promotion has always been banned from the group but by giving good advice, the expectation is those first home buyer members will reach out when needed. This has worked exceptionally well for those professional members who have followed this practice; however, we’ve seen an increasing number of people that have either ignored, not understood, or abused those rules.
So now we have decided that we need to get members of the group who are professionals to register themselves here. It means that the admin can communicate more easily and ensure that the rules are adhered to.
That in turn means the members of the group can continue to get a good experience for the years to come.
As mentioned, we have decided that we need to get members of the group who are professionals to register themselves. This takes affect from the 2nd June 2026 and we will have a grace period whereby we will be advising professionals via the Facebook Group of both the new rules and the requirement to register themselves.
That grace period will be until the 31st July.
Understand The New Rules
We have created a new set of rules for the group.
They are simplified as we want to ensure that everyone adheres to them, but with the registration we know that we can remind the professionals members too.
There are a few points that I will highlight here.
Firstly, this group was established by Stuart Wills, who is a mortgage adviser, and he has allowed other mortgage advisors and bankers (which may be deemed in competition) to also belong to the group and we stress this is a privilege and not a right.
Stuart and his team at Mortgage Managers are the administrators of the group, and they have sole discretion to suspend or ban members.
The group does not allow advertising from any members.
However, at the discretion of the admin group they may allow suitable advertising from time to time and with express permission. If you believe that you have a product or service that would benefit the members and not directly compete with Mortgage Managers then you’re welcome to contact us and we will consider allowing you to publish information on the group about that product or service.
It is not common practice, so do not be offended if we say no and do not approach us about things such as first home buyer seminars or anything that is self-promotion by nature.
